Hair isn\u2019t just a look. It\u2019s a language. It\u2019s how we identify ourselves and each other. It\u2019s the first detail we reach for when trying to describe someone, and the first impression we offer the world. In the KEVIN.MURPHY universe, hair isn\u2019t a trend to chase \u2014 it\u2019s a mirror of self. A reflection of tribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That idea \u2014 tribe versus trend \u2014 shaped the entire experience. The message was clear: hair shouldn\u2019t be dictated by fleeting style cycles. And while I\u2019ve heard his story many times over the years, something about hearing it in his own words \u2014 without media-edited polish, without script\u2014f elt different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He talked about the early days of his career, the slow transition from salon to session, and the reality of what that leap actually looks like. It wasn\u2019t a straight line. It was back and forth, in and out. Salon work and shoots, shoots and more salon work. Each experience layering on confidence, clarity, and technical flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also shared how the brand began. While the formulas worked, the name didn\u2019t. Named after Kevin\u2019s salon at the time, other salon owners weren\u2019t interested in putting a rival salon\u2019s name on their shelves. That decision to pivot \u2014 to use his own name, punctuated and capitalized in a way that stood out to differentiate man from brand \u2014 wasn\u2019t just random. It was strategic. And it worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And of course, there\u2019s the packaging. At a time when most products came in round technicolor bottles, Kevin created sleek, square, beige components \u2014 something that would feel just as elegant in the backbar of his minimalist salon as it would in a client\u2019s million-dollar bathroom. The aesthetic wasn\u2019t an afterthought. It was a visual promise: this brand will never compete with your salon\u2019s style.
